Nearly twenty-five thousand households in south-east Queensland found themselves without power on the start of the week after powerful weather events passed over the state, bringing wind gusts topping over 100 km/h.

Massive Hailstones and Extensive Destruction

Homeowners witnessed large ice chunks measuring up to 7 centimeters in some areas. Weather authorities announced that multiple regions across the state had been hit with large hailstones.

Emergency crews were focused on reestablishing electricity service throughout the damaged zones, with nearly 70 crews activated to address the widespread outages.

Victoria's Weather Woes

At the same time, nearly 1,000 energy customers in the southern state also faced power outages after Melbourne recorded its wettest day in over 500 days.

Emergency response teams responded to 598 emergency reports across the state, mainly for property damage but also for collapsed vegetation and flooding.

Moist weather were forecast to persist along much of Queensland's east this coming days as a atmospheric system continued to pull in damp air against the shoreline.

Tuesday was predicted as the heaviest precipitation period, with persistent thunderstorm potential predicted across different parts of both areas.

Health Warning

Public health experts cautioned that there was an higher risk of epidemic thunderstorm asthma across the countryside regions, particularly given the ongoing climate situation.
