The New Animated Series' Introductory Sequence Selected the Wrong Critical Role Track

This latest animated series, the newest animated series from the beloved role-playing group, revealed an exciting opening credits. It showcases our favorite group of outcasts, misfits, and criminals fighting hard and making their mark, while also hinting at multiple heart-wrenching backstories for characters such as the voice actor's mage Caleb, and Travis Willingham's warlock orc, Fjord.

Overall, the intro appears stunning. But I couldn't help feeling that an element was lost in the song choice.

The intro uses "Welcome to Wildemount", a truly stellar song created by producer and singer the talented musician. This piece originating from the official score of that title, the second one put out by Critical Role Productions LLC's music division Scanlan Shorthalt Music. It's a wonderful sentimental choice, and I suspect that fans of the sequel series will appreciate its presence.

Personally, The Mighty Nein's intro doesn't quite capture the excitement and excitement that was part of the show's actual-play adventure. "Your Turn to Roll", composed by singer-songwriter Jason Charles Miller, was an instant classic for me when it was initially unveiled in that year, and it improved further when cast member Sam Riegel wrote words to the tune for the animated Campaign 2 opening in the later year.

Featuring vocals from one actress, Laura Bailey, Travis Willingham, as well as Riegel himself, the song was catchy and fun. At the time, I hadn't seen the second campaign at that point, but it was so infectious that I still saved it on my phone. This track that excites you before you dive into an installment of fantasy hijinks.

The Mighty Nein's opening with "Welcome to Wildemount" doesn't strike the same chords in my opinion. It's a grand piece of music, but from what I know of this party, I can't help but feel that its tone is somewhat mismatched.

Naturally, the creators has already said that the animated show will have some surprises and differences from the original live sessions. A tonal change for its opening appears as one of them.

This animated adventure will be released on the streaming service from Nov. 19. If you can't wait until then, or wish to prepare to get to know the personas of Critical Role's Campaign 2, the original episodes are accessible on Spotify and YouTube.
