Fashion legend Antony Price, the visionary style architect behind many legendary styles favored by musical icons like Bowie and members of Roxy Music, as well as Queen Camilla, has passed away at the age of 80.

He was celebrated for his defined forms and theatrical styles, including the pastel suits that appeared in the iconic band Duran Duran's landmark music video for "their hit Rio".

"They honored him as a 'visionary' and a 'kind, intelligent and razor-witted friend,' the group posted a remembrance across their platforms."

His passing follows less than a month after he unveiled his newest line in London, his first in more than 30 years. The performer Lily Allen modelled a dress inspired by the iconic black velvet "revenge dress" historically worn by the late Princess Diana.

A Pioneering Career

Born in Yorkshire in 1945, Price headed for London during the sixties to attend the prestigious Royal College of Art.

Upon completing his studies, he commenced his career designing clothing for men at the label Stirling Copper and was behind the body-hugging, buttoned trousers that The Rolling Stones' frontman Mick Jagger wore during The Rolling Stones' Gimme Shelter tour in 1969.

He founded his own label in 1979 and held his debut runway presentation a year later. The show featured as its opener creations worn by supermodel Jerry Hall, who later wore the wedding dress Price created for her for her nuptials with Sir Mick Jagger.

Working with Legends

A long-time collaborator of musical chameleon David Bowie, Price created the memorable jacket the singer wore for his "the song As The World Falls Down" music video in 1986.

His characteristic talent to merge elements of men's and women's fashion along with his masterful technique in designing form-fitting garments established him as a "true original," in the words of the British Fashion Council.

By the 1990s, he started creating outfits for the then-Duchess of Cornwall, Camilla, including a number of outfits for her US tour after becoming Duchess.

After a career spanning half a century, Price presented his final runway show in London just last month in partnership with the design house 16Arlington.

  • Sculpted Silhouettes: The core of his aesthetic.
  • Dramatic Impact: Shaping the look of rock and pop.
  • Boundary-Pushing Tailoring: Blurring lines between clothing for men and women.
  • A Client List from Rock to Royalty: Including music legends and the future Queen Consort.

Design circles laments the passing to a genuine innovator whose impact on style and culture remains profoundly felt.
