The star has given the full amount of his £25,000 Mercury Prize prize money to the MVT, which works to save the United Kingdom's grassroots concert spaces.

Fender was given the cheque on mid-October as his new release his work was named the top album of the last 12 months.

He has opted to hand the money over to the trust, in acknowledgment of the crucial part local spots had in his early career.

"I personally would not have achieved my current career if it weren't for all the performances I did around the North East, and elsewhere, when I was starting out," said the artist. "These spaces are legendary, but they are facing challenges."

Beginning in 2023, over 150 of these spaces have shut down – about 16 percent of the entire UK sector.

In the last year, top acts including Pulp, Coldplay, Katy Perry and Ed Sheeran have all backed the Music Venues Trust in its efforts to support the industry, by including a modest fee to their admission fees, which benefits local stages.

He also joined in, raising over £100k on his live tour to help numerous local spots across England, Scotland, and Wales.

The donation helped venues that were dealing with imminent closure due to difficulties caused by flooding, fires and personal losses, as well as regulatory hurdles, conflicts and noise complaints.

Some locations were granted monetary aid in improving facilities and technical equipment that positively impacted musicians and fans.

"The idea that funds from performances in major spaces helps the independent spots, where it kicks off for musicians like me, is just sensible," Fender has stated.

He is not the first artist to contribute his award prize money to good deeds.

When Pulp received the prize in 1996 for their release the album, lead singer Jarvis Cocker declared that the group would contribute their cash to the charity the charity.

In 2002, musician the artist divided her award among multiple good causes, like the children's charity and a Sickle Cell charity.

"And I gave a thousand pounds to Highgate Newtown, to their classes, because I did gymnastics when I was younger and they required better apparatus," Ms Dynamite shared with the media.

Two years ago, they contributed their winnings to the community center that nurtured their act, as well as other grassroots music organisations.

Also 1994 winners M People donated their winnings to a multiple sclerosis charity after a close contact was identified with the disease.

"The victory was sufficient," said artist the singer. "The cash was the bonus but we could do without the extra, because we had the main prize. So our success impacted somebody else's life."

Recently, the trust shared it had protected a couple of small stages in that region, by placing them under public stewardship.

One venue in the city and the second in that location were bought under the public acquisition initiative, which is supported by Arts Council England and music fans who purchase "stakes" in the properties.
