The rugby star gained 20 international appearances for the All Blacks before transferring loyalty to Samoa.

Rugby league's governing body has stated that players who enter the “counterfeit” R360 league will be barred for 10 seasons.

The new league, which plans to launch in October 2026, is seeking to lure athletes from both codes with lucrative deals and a slimmed-down playing schedule.

Top rugby league stars have reportedly been approached by R360, which will feature multiple men's sides and women's teams located in large metropolitan areas around the world.

Representing Samoa the rugby star, who is with his NRL club in the NRL, has said he has had talks with R360.

Ryan Papenhuyzen, Lomax, Payne Haas and Gray are also believed to be considering joining the rebel league.

Several leading union nations, including Australia, earlier declared a restriction on R360 recruits participating in test matches.

“We heard our clubs and we've responded strongly,” commented the league's chief the official.

“Unfortunately, there will always be groups that seek to pirate our code for monetary profit.

“They fail to contribute in pathways or the development of athletes. They merely capitalize on the dedication of others, jeopardizing careers of economic hardship while benefiting financially.

“Essentially, they are, copying the game.”

R360 is co-founded by former England World Cup winner Mike Tindall and supported by commercial backers.

Subsequent to the potential union prohibitions were revealed recently, it stated: “We aim to collaborate together as integrated into the international rugby schedule.

“The competition is designed with customized calendars for male and female sides and we will permit participants for test matches, as specified in their deals.”

R360 will seek approval for its plans from the international authority, rugby union's regulatory group, at its board session in 2026.
