Adult Swim's Premier Fresh Series of This Year Earns a Substantial Renewal for Seasons 2 and 3.

During the fall season, the late-night programming block welcomed back its offbeat hit, Smiling Friends. But, shortly thereafter, the channel unveiled a fresh animated series with a distinctly unique feel. Haha, You Clowns emerged as sweet and soothing, evoking a cartoon version of a contemplative talk show. During a period often marked by bleakness, this show's sincerity struck a chord and turned it into a breakout hit.

A Significant Investment

In mid-December, the network revealed exciting news: Haha, You Clowns has been greenlit for two more seasons. This offers creator Joe Cappa ample opportunity to further explore the story of the Campbell family. The show focuses on three well-mannered teenage brothers whose central trait is their deep love for their widowed father, with Cappa providing the voices for all four main characters.

"I am incredibly thankful to the audience of the show who gave *Haha, You Clowns* a chance and spread the word," remarked Cappa. "I am overjoyed that I get to continue exploring the Campbell household for a little longer."

Executive Acclaim

Accompanying the news praise from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who called the series as "profoundly sincere and oddly captivating." He thanked the fans who discovered the show and advocated for its distinctly quirky sensibility.

"All of you showed up for this new show, championed for it on social media, and expanded its audience week over week so we could greenlight not one, but two more seasons," commented Ouweleen. "In the words: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"

A Wholesome Alternative

When it first aired, Haha, You Clowns was praised as "a comforting antidote" to more cynical adult animated fare. Viewers found something unexpectedly cozy about observing this lovable family navigate their everyday routines.

Previously, creator Joe Cappa shared his hope to move the comedy genre beyond its prevailing layer of irony. He linked this trend to various cultural shifts.

“It feels like there's a default mode of irony that we are trapped in,” said Cappa. “It feels as if we have to know we’re the cleverest viewer in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for 10 years, and we just have to laugh at something different now. Comedy has to evolve.”

Future Seasons

Given this two-season order, with Haha, You Clowns set to continue, Cappa may well catalyze that comedic shift. At a minimum, the renewal guarantees audiences a little more time to experience the gentle humor of the beloved Campbell clan.

The season 1 finale of Haha, You Clowns airs on December 21st. All episodes is currently streaming on HBO Max.
