🔗 Share this article Admittedly, it's Packed with Absurdity, Over-the-Top Hospitality and Psychobabble. However, I Honestly Cherish Meghan's Festive Episode. No matter the time of year, it's always open season for criticism on the Meghan Markle's Netflix series, With Love, Meghan. Critics, from seasoned journalists to online pundits, have hardly ever agreed so completely as when gleefully ripping the program's initial installments apart. The common opinion held that a greater royal outrage had hardly ever taken place than the notorious snack re-labeling incident. Currently, as a festive rebel, she is back once again with a "Christmas Special" (also known as a yuletide episode). Yet now, it's different. The usual elements viewers are accustomed to – psychobabble word salads, intense hospitality – persist, but framed of a holiday show, it all clicks into place. The puzzle has come perfectly; it's a ideal seasonal storm. At this stage, Meghan resembles the oddball family member at most festive family gatherings – dispensing random tips, and supplying the occasional strange exclamation. ("I love spinach!" … "A tradition has to have a beginning." … "A tree is part of my memory and love of the holiday season.") She's quite a personality, but her company is customary and oddly reassuring. And she appears pleased; she's inflicting a bit of damage. She is aware her all subtle gestures, syllable and gaze will be dissected and criticised, but nonetheless looks carefree and too blessed to be stressed. Perhaps this is the first occasion in history where that clichéd phrase – "Ignore them, they're just jealous" – may well be true. Since, you know what?, each element in Meghan's Holiday Celebration is lovely. Yes, it's all cringily ultra-extra, nonsense and flamboyant – but isn't that just what Christmas is for? And the words she speaks might be laughable, but the walk she's walking genuinely looks beautifully curated. Anything she sets her mind to, she pulls off with panache. Her recipes looks delicious, the wreath she creates is stunning, her presents are almost too pretty to tear into. Nothing is average or ugly – including the way she fastens her kitchen garment is creative and fashionable. She doesn't bung a dish in the microwave, it "has a moment", and she creases wrapping paper like an craft master. She also seems to be thoroughly enjoying herself throughout. How could any skeptical viewer not be convinced, filled with festive joy and left with a deep longing for personalized Christmas crackers or a crudites platter where broccoli is organized in the shape of a wreath? Meghan was once an actress for a living, of course, but even so, after the degree of scrutiny she has weathered since she met Prince Harry, even a hypothetical offspring of Meryl Streep and Judi Dench would struggle to act this genuinely. Her decision to change or even soften her routine, even though it being so constantly, internationally ridiculed, is strangely reassuring. In our uncertain world, here is one thing we can depend on: Meghan will stay true to form, whatever happens. We will forever know where we are with her. If you're remaining skeptical of her message, a thought that will certainly come as a relief: you are not obligated to. There isn't mandatory conscription anymore, and were it to return, it would be improbable to include watching With Love, Meghan: Holiday Celebration. If, conversely, you choose to watch and are consumed by envy about her picture-perfect Christmas, all is not lost either. Be you a royal or a office worker, no kid truly appreciates the time and energy their mother puts in in December. So you can find comfort by imagining the young royals' faces when they reveal a handwritten message that says, 'I love you because you are brave,' from a handcrafted holiday countdown, in place of a candy.
